Please note our revised times for June 2026.

We give free, impartial and confidential help

Our Aims and Principles are:

To empower our clients to make informed decisions about the problems they face;

To campaign (using evidential statistics) for change in policy and legislation to improve the lives of Bailiwick residents;

To reduce our client’s stress, anxieties, and pressure, by supporting them to manage personal debt and poverty, to have a positive future;

To raise sustainable funds to ensure we have sufficient resource to continue to meet the increasing complexity, improved accessibility and changing needs of our clients.

The Citizens Advice Service provides free, independent, confidential and impartial advice to everyone on their rights and responsibilities.

The Service values diversity, promotes equality and challenges discrimination.

We give people the knowledge and confidence they need to find their way forward – whoever they are, and whatever their problem.

What we do…..

General Advice:

Our Advisers are available by phone or face to face by making an appointment.

Examples of some enquiries include relationship issues, housing, employment and consumer matters, but we will try to help all clients with any issue they may have.

If we don’t know, we will help to signpost the client to someone who can help or undertake research to find out.

Advisers don’t tell clients what they should do, but make sure that they know what they can do;

Clients will be apprised of the options available to them in order to make informed decisions for themselves.

Research & Campaigns:

No one else sees so many people with so many different kinds of problems, and that gives us a unique insight into the challenges people are facing today.

Citizens Advice Guernsey deals with approximately 12,000 enquiries each year. This means that we have a large amount of data on the problems experienced by local people.

With the right anonymised evidence, we show relevant bodies and the States of Guernsey how they can make things better for people.

Money Advice:

Advisers can help with personal debts, household budgeting and with the clients permission, negotiate direct with creditors or help the clients do this themselves;

Money Advisers cannot advise on limited companies, liquidation etc;

Clients will be allocated the same Money Adviser throughout the process.

The service offered is both free and non-judgemental and is concerned about how to help clients rather than how the problems arose;

Nothing is done without the client’s agreement.
