Volunteers are at the heart of Citizens Advice. By volunteering with Citizens Advice Guernsey, you can make a real difference by helping people access free, impartial and independent advice and support when they need it most.

Whether you want to give back to your community, build confidence, gain new skills, or meet new people, volunteering is a rewarding and meaningful experience.

What Could You Do?

We offer a range of volunteer roles depending on your interests and skills. These may include:

Generalist Advisers

  • Providing information and advice in person, over the phone, or online

Money Advisers

  • Helping with personal debt, household budgetary.
  • Non-judgmental attitude

Administration and Customer Support

  • Helping the service run smoothly through admin roles
  • Supporting staff and other volunteers

Fundraising, Media and Campaigns

  • Raising awareness of our work through social media.
  • Fundraising events are organised by Friends of Citizens Advice Guernsey Charity Shop
  • Supporting research and campaigns to improve policies and services

Trustee or Board Roles

  • Helping guide and support the strategic direction of the organisation

If you have skills in areas like IT, administration, communication, or community engagement, or would like to develop them, there are opportunities for you to get involved.

Do I Need Experience?

No experience or qualifications are required.

We welcome people from all backgrounds and provide full training and support to help you succeed.

What matters most is that you:

  • Are open-minded and respectful
  • Can work as part of a team
  • Are willing to learn new skills

Training and Support

All volunteers receive training tailored to their role, along with ongoing support from staff and experienced volunteers.

If you’re unsure about your abilities, don’t worry. Many volunteers start with no prior experience and build confidence through training and support.

Who Can Volunteer?

We welcome anyone who is interested in helping others and making a positive difference in their community.

You don’t need a specific background or career path, our volunteers come from all walks of life. This includes people who are working, retired, studying, returning to work, or simply looking to learn new skills or give their time to a worthwhile cause.

Can I volunteer if I’ve used Citizens Advice before?

Absolutely. Your experience can offer helpful insight into the service. If you’re still receiving support for a current issue, we may suggest a short pause before you begin volunteering.

Can I volunteer if I receive benefits?

Yes, you can volunteer while receiving benefits, if you continue to meet their conditions.

Can I volunteer if I have a criminal record?

Having a criminal record does not automatically prevent you from volunteering. Each situation is considered individually, depending on the role and circumstances.

Is there a minimum age?

Most advice roles are open to people aged 16+, though this may vary depending on the role.

How to Apply
